Sometimes you have to be down in the Dirt . . .

. . . To get the best perspective.

The way the dirt feels as it sifts through your fingers …

is a childhood feeling …

I remember and continue to practice today through my gardening.

I have recently been enthused to learn of several studies that suggest I may be improving my health by “playing in the dirt”.

But the beginning of that relationship between Bacterium and me began as a small child.  My mother would sit me in the middle of the garden as she tended to it. I would play with worms and watch all the plants as they grew and shared with me candy red cherry tomatoes and green beans by the handfuls.

Maybe just breathing, but surly from eating a little garden dirt with your vegetables could,

Improve your Immune System,

which may make you less likely to develop Asthma.

Better emotional health. (from soil microbes – Mycobacterium vaccae)

This would make sense of WHY, so many people enjoy pulling weeds?

It’s all in the dirt.

  1. I’ve heard they’ve already put this microbe into a vaccine, so eating dirt wouldn’t be necessary to gain its benefits.
